In addition to nutrition counseling and group cooking classes, I also offer private cooking sessions. This could be ideal for the following reasons:
• You may prefer a more personal experience with less chaos and fewer students in the kitchen.
• You may want practical solutions that specifically address your dietary needs such as health issues, allergies or culinary preferences.
• Wanting to do the cooking in the privacy and comfort of your own home, and having the option to assess your pantry and/or refrigerator to help you be more successful at cooking on the fly.
• Or just wanting to have fun, one-on-one, in my kitchen, together cooking fabulous dishes with your food preferences in mind.
With my background as a nutrition consultant and a lover of cooking, one-on-one is ideal, as we can first explore, through a series of questions pertaining to your health and your food preferences, what is the best dietary direction for you and your health. We can hand pick recipes that you and your body will enjoy.
For example: if you have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, our focus would be on a nutrient-rich, high-alkaline diet (lots of veggies) with an emphasis on foods that offer the best sources of minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, Vitamin D2 and Vitamin K3. I can show you how to make killer salads with deep leafy greens and which booster foods to add to increase the calcium content and make it tasty.
Another example: If you are predisposed or have been diagnosed with diabetes, I would recommend foods that are lower in unhealthy fats, simple carbs and sugar and instead, higher in healthy fats, complex carbs and lean proteins. I might also have to throw in an exercise plan for you as well. We can do sink squats, calf raises and balance work while waiting for our beautiful, delicious food to cook.
In any of these cases, we can get you on the fast track to turning things around so you can be your best healthy self, you can enjoy a life full of freedom with boundless energy while feeling good about your choices.
There is no one formula for every person, which is why we start with assessing your situation. You may be perfectly healthy and may just want to take up the yum factor in the kitchen and enjoy eating healthy, delicious foods. If you need more support, we can start with an assessment form. In either case, here are some of the most typical steps we follow to get you to where you want to be.
I like to say, “Home is where the pantry is” and of course, the refrigerator is equally important to keep well-stocked and well-thought out, as you don’t want to run into roadblocks and ruin the mojo. Cooking is a creative venture, and like a successful artist, it is imperative to start with the right tools. For plant-based cooking, there are so many unique opportunities to make your meals, not only delicious, but also chock full of nutritional value. We will work together to help you get on target and enjoy a smooth transition to an amazing adventure in learning and embracing delicious, healthy plant-based foods.
One of the services I offer is to take you on a tour of the farmers market, the health food store or one of my all-time favorite stores, Trader Joe’s.
